Watson
September 3, 2006 – Stephens City, VA. -Sherando’s
Latasha Watson had a stellar 2005/2006 season and this year looks
even better. In a recent conversation, Latasha said, “I’m making
more out of xc (cross country) to get my endurance up”. In 2006,
Watson ran a 25.47 in the 200 meter dash at the VHSL Group AA State
Championship and followed up that same day with a 57.87 in the 400
meter run. “I’ve also been taking strength training this summer to
build muscle”. This comes as no surprise when you look at Latasha’s
record in Track and Field. At the Northwestern District
Championships in May of 2006, she jumped 16’6” in the long jump and
35’9” in the Triple Jump.
Although cross
country will play a significant role in Latasha’s development this
season, she is extremely excited about the upcoming indoor and
outdoor season. “I can't wait till track season begins.” she said.
Watson is working towards a first place medal in the 400 meter
dash and believes she can run it in 55 seconds flat. Shaving off
over 2 ½ seconds will be an impressive feat for this high school
senior. “I don’t feel ready just yet. I need a lot of speed work
and I’m ready to work hard to succeed”.
When asked about Sherando’s girls 4X400 team, Latasha feels
confident that they can qualify for the state meet in 2007. “I feel
so excited this year. I plan to work 10 times harder than I ever
have” she said.
One thing
for sure, this highly motivated athlete will be exciting to
watch in the Northwestern District when the Warriors of
Sherando High School step onto the field of battle and
compete this year.
