2007 Judges Classic Wrap-up September 15, 2007 - The chill in the air from early fall weather pattern provided for an exciting day of cross country racing at the Kernstown Battlefield. As usual, the Northwestern District teams were a powerhouse in this meet, and we have a lot of exciting news to report! Girls The Millbrook girls dominated the Judges Classic, with with a first place team finish (79 points). Millbrook was lead by Freshman Pressley Parkes, who placed 2nd (19:13) behind first-place finisher Lia Divalentin of Chantilly (19:00). Pressley Parkes' big sister Sullivan placed 4th, with a time of (19:45). Senior Jenna Pickett finished 17th(21:13), Sophomore Tammy Cheung finished 20th (21:23), and Senior Carolyn Smith placed 36th (22:00). Millbrooks top five girls will make them really difficult to beat in Districts. The Sherando girls placed fifth at the Judges CLassic, with two freshman leading the way. Krista Deceault finished 6th (20:06) and Rachel Tripp finished 16th (21:10). Junior Julee Steel finished 38th with a time of 22:04. Deceault and Tripp have made an immediate impact the girls squad, and will be exciting to watch throughout the rest of the season. Handley's girls finished 8th as a team, lead by Senior Jennette Matthieu, who placed 19th (21:22). Rachel Carson of James Wood lead the Colonels girls, placing 13th(20:55). Freshman Erin Gardner finished 25th (21:32), and Junior Crystal Printz finished 34th (21:51). Other notables include Warren County's Mara Smith, who placed 7th, with a time of (20:12), and Skyline's Judy Grigsby finished 22nd (21:29). Boys James Wood Senior Josh Wilson demonstrated the art of tactical racing at the Judges Classic, and reaped the benefits of that experience with a first place finish as a result. Wilson hung with the lead pack for most of the race, and kicked it into high gear the last half mile to easily distance himself from the rest of the pack, finishing with a time of 16:20. It was the Warriors of Sherando that won the team race at the Judges Classic, with five athletes placing in the top 25. Junior Scott Guichard placed 11th (17:13), Junior Danny Stiefvater placed 13th (17:18), Junior Colby Witt placed 15th (17:21), Senior David Sperry placed 22nd (17:32), and Senior Sean Whitson placed 25th(17:39). The team standings was a close one, with Potomac Falls finishing within 4 points of Sherando. Millbrook High School finished in third place as a team, with Senior Stephen Lassiter leading the way with an impressive 4th place finish (16:39). Bobby Vance finished 12th (17:13), Nick Flowerday 24th (17:36), Josh Cecil 31st (17:55) and Jacob Leonardis finished 36th(18:00) to round out the top five for the Millbrook boys. Other notables include Warren County Junior Adam Eakins (AKA Fire-Eagle) who had a solid 8th place finish for the Wildcats (16:57), Andrew Turner, also from Warren County placed 26th (17:43), Jake Carpenter of James Wood placed 34th (17:58) and Junior Luis Ramirez of Handley placed 27th (17:49).
