August 21, 2006 - Front Royal, Va - The Warren
County Wildcats Cross Country team held a fundraising relay today at
Warren County Middle School that lasted almost five hours, with five
teams totaling over 185 miles. This special fundraising
event was designed to raise funds for new team uniforms, the team
banquet and traveling expenses. Cross Country head coach Mike
Tanner said "the relay was a cross between a speed work out and
an endurance challenge".
"The kids enjoyed it because it was different,
combining a social event with a challenging and rewarding work out.
It gave our athletes the sense that they completed something
difficult as a team" Tanner said. "We divided our athletes
into five teams, with eight runners on each team. Each athlete
ran one mile on the track before handing their baton to the next
teammate in line" Tanner said. Coach Tanner said that the
winning team did thirty nine miles.
