November 1, 2006, Woodstock, VA - Central High School announced a
memorial walk and run on November 12, 2006 at their home cross country
course on North Street in Woodstock. This event has being held to
honor the memory of Jessica Pumphrey, a Central High School
student/athlete who died in a tragic auto accident in September this
year. Jessica's Run is open to both students and adults, and will begin at 3:00 PM with a one mile walk/run. A three mile run will follow at
3:20.
Since this is not really a competitive race, this would be a
perfect way for those people competing in the state championships to
conclude their season with a nice recovery run. According to
Central Cross Country Coach Melissa Wright, the purpose of Jessica's Run
"is to bring anyone in the cross country
community (and our community) who would like to join us in memory of
Jessica Pumphrey. It isn't about the competition, or the times or the
places. It is something we wanted to do and we just wanted to open it
up to others if they care to join us."
There are no required entry fees to run, although Central
High School is accepting donations which will go to the Jessica Pumphrey
Memorial Fund. NWDistrict.com plans to cover this event, and wants to
encourage everyone to come out and support our friends at Central High
School!
