September 2, 2006 – Fredericksburg, VA. -  In the opening cross country meet of the 2006 season, teams from the Northwestern District were introduced to Tropical Storm Ernesto’s aftermath.  Athletes from Millbrook, Central, James Wood and Liberty High School walked onto a soggy, muddy, gloomy, and humid cross country opener at Loriella Park near Fredericksburg, VA.  Regardless of the undesirable conditions, athletes stepped to the line and preformed as they had been trained.

In the girl’s race, Millbrook’s Jillian Pollack cranked out a 20:40.19 which sealed up a 7th place finish for her.  Following close behind was teammate Sullivan Parkes who crossed the line in 20:58.09 for 11th place.  Rounding out the top 25 for the girls were Lauryl Andrus from James Wood High School (19th) with a 21:40.00, and Liberty High School’s Deanna Andrews (22nd) with a 21:48.52.   

The Millbrook girls placed 5th overall with 224 points, Liberty High School was 10th with 230 points, James Wood grabbed the 11th spot and Central rounded out the Northwestern District (20th position) with 554 points.

In the boy’s race, Millbrook High School put their top three guys across the finish line in the top twenty-five.   Millbrook’s Stephen Lassiter opened the season with a 7th place finish, with a time of 17:21:90, and teammate Patrick Connelly (11th) followed close behind with a time of 17:27:86.   James Wood’s Josh Wilson broke up Millbrook’s top three placing 14th with a time of 17:36:90 and close behind was Millbrook’s Bobby Vance (17th) with a time of 17:49:62.   James Wood’s Tyler Beach placed 19th with a 17:53:61 and rounding out the top 25 for the District was teammate Darin Longerbeam (24th) with an 18:00:51.

 Millbrook’s boys team grabbed 3rd place with a score of 117, James Wood placed 7th with a total of 229 points, Liberty High School took 13th place with 392 points and rounding out the Northwestern District was Central High School (26th) with 698 points.
