Brentsville Takes The Boys & Girls
Championships At Regionals! |
|
Panorama Farms – Charlottesville, VA –
In a cool fall afternoon in the rolling hills of Albemarle County,
the Brentsville and Millbrook girls prove to be true contenders in
the Commonwealth.
Brentsville’s Becky Stewart took an early lead in the race and would
lead it wire to wire. At the one mile mark, Stewart appeared to be
in complete control and was expected to distance herself from the
pack of over 100 girl athletes in the next mile. But this was not
to be the case. At the two mile mark Sullivan Parks and Jillian
Pollock from Millbrook and Brentsville’s Amelia Emerson closed the
gap as the lead group left the pack of girl runners.
As the
3 mile mark approached, Millbrook’s Sullivan Parks, at one point,
closed the gap within 30 meters, but her valiant effort wasn’t quite
enough to reel in the experienced Becky Stewart who crossed the
finish line in 18:42 to capture the first place title. Millbrook’s
Sullivan Parkes grabbed second place with a time of 18:48, teammate
Jillian Pollack was third (19:09), Amelia Emerson (Brentsville) was
fourth with a finishing time of 19:19, Christina Lee from Potomac
Falls was fifth with a time of 19:20 and Anna Cote from John Handley
rounded out the top six with a time of 19:24. |
|
As the team scores were tallied,
Brentsville would successfully defend their 2005 regional
championship title with a score of 39 points, which devastated the
field. Handley girls would grab second place with a score of 122
points, Heritage High School placed third with 133 points and
rounding out the top four was Monticello High School with 145
points.
With Stewart graduating after this
year, Millbrook sophomore Sullivan Parkes is already next year's
early favorite to win the girls' individual crown. In this race,
Parkes gave Stewart all she wanted and will be something to recon
with at the state championships at Great Meadows next week.

In the boys race, Brentsville’s Adam Henken would led the varsity
boys to a 22 point win over a tough challenger in Western Albemarle
(2nd) as last year's top two finishing state meet AA
teams did battle. Brentsville averaged 16:23 on the 5K course with
Henken, Henry Melius (8th, 16:22), Ray Delgado (12th, 16:27), Luke
Watts (20th, 16:40), and Andrew Johnson (21st, 16:40).
As the
lead pack of Henken, Ehab Hoffman (Louisa), Alex Ott (Turner Ashby),
Thomas Baker (Louisa), and Kyle Satterwhite (Western Albemarle) came
through the first mile the 4:50 range, spectators were impressed as
the lead pack started to pull away from the field. Louisa senior
Hoffman would challenge Henken, but in the end, 10 seconds would
separate the two as they crossed the finish line.
Brentsville’s Adam Henken captured the individual crown with a
finishing time of 15:48, second place was awarded to Louisa’s Ehab
Hoffman finished in 15:58, Alex Ott from Turner Ashby was third in
16:02, Thomas Baker of Louisa was fourth in 16:14 and Kyle
Satterwhite was fifth with a time of 16:17. |

Team wise, Brentsville boys would
successfully defend their title scoring 57 points, Western Albemarle
was second with 79 points, Sherando High School was third with 119
points and Louisa was fourth with 133 points.

The Brentsville boys and girls were led by individual champions Adam
Henken (15:48) and Becky Stewart (18:42) to team championships at
the Region II Meet held Friday at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville,
Virginia. Stewart continued her dominance within Group AA's toughest
region as she became a 3-time regional cross country champion.
Henken
led the NTN SE #3 Brentsville boys (57 pts) to a 22 point win over a
tough challenger in Western Albemarle (2nd, 79 pts) as last year's
top two finishing state meet AA teams did battle. Brentsville
averaged 16:23 on the 5K course with Henken, Henry Melius (8th,
16:22), Ray Delgado (12th, 16:27), Luke Watts (20th, 16:40), and
Andrew Johnson (21st, 16:40). Last year, Northwest Region boys teams
competing at Panorama Farms for their regional meet, averaged seven
seconds faster at the state meet. |

The
Warriors of Western Albemarle put forth their best team performance
of the year to keep within distance of the defending state champs
with Kyle Satterwhite (5th, 16:17), James Howard-Smith (11th,
16:26), Tyler Stutzman (17th, 16:36), Carlos Gomez (27th, 16:56),
