Brentsville Rules!
Northwestern District
Championship by Jessica Barnett
Great Meadows State Park - October 27, 2005 - Brentsville High
School dominated the Northwestern District Championship at Great
Meadows State Park today. The Brentsville boys took first
place, with Nick Gehlsen leading the way, placing first overall
in the boys race. Becky Stewart won the girls race,
helping the Brentsville Girls take first place in the team
results.
Brentsville leading girl Becky Stuart
had an amazing race. This was her personal record a long with
many other runners who PR'd on the fast course at Great Meadows.
Stewart said, “I raced really well. I wasn’t quite sure what to
expect since we haven’t had a race in about a week and a half.”
Sherando also did very well with many runners in the top 15.
Sherando’s top runner Levi Watson placed third overall. Watson said,
“I was very pleased with my time.”
All in all everyone ran pretty well. With many athletes
beating their personal records, most coaches and runners feel it was
a good day. For some, they will continue to go to the Regional
Championships next Thursday, November 3, 2005 and for others this
was the end of the season. Clearly the Northwestern District is a
running powerhouse in the state. There will be many other
teams in the state who will go all the way to the state
championships that have far less talent than many of the teams from
the Northwestern District that were eliminated today. That says a
lot about the commitment and dedication this area has for the sport
of running.
Good luck to
everyone at Regionals!
